Meet EmerAid Sustain Herbivore, a special diet tailored for herbivorous mammals like rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas, as well as herbivorous reptiles such as adult iguanas, tortoises, and certain turtles. This diet is designed to help them recover from serious illnesses, manage chronic conditions, or address being underweight. It also assists in transitioning them from intensive care nutrition to regular feeding.

This carefully designed diet was developed with the input of experts, including exotic animal veterinarians, emergency clinicians, and nutritionists. It is high in fibre, making it easy to absorb and digest while providing the necessary nutrients for recovery.

Key Benefits:

  • Contains eight sources of dietary fibre. This balanced blend of insoluble and soluble fibre types promotes optimal hindgut health and normal gastrointestinal motility.
  • Sources of the insoluble or structural fibres lignin and cellulose include timothy hay, soybean hulls, and peppermint leaves, which all help to maintain the health of the cecum and large intestine.
  • Fermentable or soluble fibre hemicellulose, pectins, oligosaccharides) in the form of beet pulp, soybean meal, inulin, papaya, and xanthan, maintains a robust population of functional microflora in the large intestine and cecum.
  • Contains all essential amino acids.
  • A complete and balanced source of vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and nucleotides.
  • Hydrolysed soy protein is an easily digestible protein, which helps the body quickly rebuild lean body mass.
  • Oat grain and wheat flour are readily digestible complex starches that provide energy when commensal microbial function might be impaired.
  • Peppermint leaves serve as a source of structural fibre as well as a tasty enticement for self feeding.

Importantly, EmerAid Sustain Herbivore goes beyond the typical nutritional standards for these animals and can be used for an extended period when recommended by a vet. Be cautious about weight management since it contains about 20% more energy than standard diets.

Remember that EmerAid Sustain Herbivore should be used under the guidance of a licensed veterinarian. For animals with poor weight gain or malabsorption issues, EmerAid Intensive Care Herbivore may be a better choice.

Preparation & Administration:

WARNING: EmerAid has been scientifically designed for extremely high digestibility. Avoid contamination. Handle product carefully. Keep dry. Use a clean, dry scoop. Do not cross contaminate with scoops used with non-EmerAid foods. Contamination can cause harmful bacterial growth.

  1. Measure level scoops, and do not pack the powder. Shake dry powder to facilitate mixing.
  2. Mix one part powder to one part very warm water measuring 122°F (50°C).
  3. Each size comes with a one tablespoon (15ml) size scoop. One scoop of Sustain Herbivore (6.5 g) can be mixed with 15 ml water.
  4. Stir the mixture until smooth.
  5. Use a syringe to draw up the mixture.
  6. Feed the Emeraid Sustain mixture as soon as possible after mixing
  7. Discard any leftover formula. Make formula fresh for each feeding.
  8. Flush and clean the feeding syringe.

In the adult animal, stomach volume is estimated as 30 ml/kg (3% body weight). The first feeding is often one-third to one-half of this calculated volume, however the volume and number of feedings must be adjusted based on patient species and clinical condition.
